The summer has been busy on New Jersey Street, and things have not slowed down for a second! I'm thrilled to get a minute to write this post about Father's Day- knowing that Adam CERTAINLY deserves a boat load of credit for the fabulous dad that he is.
Our adoption journey has been incredible. Having a child has been one of the most profound, fascinating, and endearing experiences life can offer. But right up there with Wylie, I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to share the experience with a true partner in this parenting endeavor. I had no doubt that Adam would be a great dad. Just a little time with Adam around kids, and you could have guessed it too... but man, he is more than "great", he is truly a natural. He and Wylie have such an incredible bond, it can warm my heart. Here are my top 5 favorite things about Adam as a dad, this Father's Day:
1. He and Wylie have such an awesome bond. He calls Wylie "Wyles" (Wiles?), and it's like they are two peas-in-a-pod some days. Both are entertainers at heart, both love motors, cars, and loud noises, and both love the outdoors. Any extra time Adam has, is spent with Wylie, and you can certainly tell.
2. Adam is a MEGA hard working dude! As you can see in the picture, Adam is multitasking by carrying heavyweight Wylie while mowing the grass. Talk about dedication! I would absolutely understand if our house or our yard fell to the wayside with Wylie, but Adam has kept things running smoothly, and has taken pristine care of our digs- all while teaching Wylie all about it. There is nothing Wylie loves more than hanging out with Adam in the yard. If he hears the lawm mower from inside the house, he finds a hat (a sign of going outside!), and heads for the door, banging until you let him out!
3. Adam is a hand's on Dad. He and Wylie spend two days each week together while Adam juggles school and working the remaining three days. Adam takes fabulous care of Wylie, and teaches him all sorts of amusing tricks. Adam does at least half of the work of taking care of Wylie- with more than his share of baths, diapers, and messy mealtimes. He's a champ.
4. Adam has an easy-going, comfortable parenting style. No whininess gets to him, and he takes even the crabbiest day in stride. He and Wylie are known to spend hours playing with pebbles in the backyard, or walking up and down the street, hanging with the neighbors.
5. He REALLY takes awesome care of us. He juggles his life as a Dad, a husband, student, and a working man like an ace. Somehow rarely letting a ball drop, he still suprises me, still plans date night, and manages the compost, the recycling, the trash, and the yard, and all of the details of our life. Did I mention that he cooks AMAZING meals every night?
Though I probably don't have the opportunity to say it enough, Adam and Wylie are my life's greatest blessings. Hooray for that. But Father's Day would be remiss to not mention Garrett, Wylie's birth father, who has given Wylie life (and an incredible complexion, a healthy appetite and great looks to boot!) and made a selfless and supportive decision with Becca that changed us into the family we are. We could NEVER thank them enough, and will never forget the blessing Wylie has in having had Garrett as his birthfather- especially on Father's Day.
